How often should you groom a Cockapoo? A UK owner's guide

Cockapoos need professional grooming every 6–8 weeks plus regular home brushing. Here's a UK-specific schedule, coat types, and what to ask your groomer.

Cockapoos have a high-maintenance coat. Most UK owners book a full groom every 6 to 8 weeks, with daily brushing in between to prevent matting — especially around the ears, armpits, and the back end where the coat rubs.

    Why so often?

The Cockapoo coat is a cross between the Cocker Spaniel's silky feathering and the Poodle's tight curl. It keeps growing rather than shedding out, which means trapped dirt, dead hair and moisture have nowhere to go. Left alone, the coat felts into tight mats that have to be shaved out.

    A realistic UK schedule

    • Daily (5 minutes): a quick line-brush through the legs and chest with a slicker brush.
    • Weekly (20 minutes): full body brush plus comb through to the skin, paying attention to behind the ears.
    • Every 6–8 weeks: professional bath, blow dry, and scissor trim. Puppies under 12 months may need a "puppy tidy" every 4–6 weeks instead.

    What to ask your groomer

When you book, tell the salon the coat length you want kept (in millimetres — most UK groomers work to 9mm, 12mm, 18mm or 25mm), whether you want a teddy bear face or a shorter "cocker-style" cut, and flag any sensitive spots. A good UK groomer will run a comb through the coat before quoting — if it won't pass cleanly, you may need a shorter cut this visit.

    Average UK prices (2026)

Expect to pay £45–£75 for a full Cockapoo groom outside London and £60–£95 inside it. Mobile groomers typically charge a £10–£20 premium. Severe matting will be quoted separately as a "de-matting fee" or as a shave-down.
